HEARTWOOD CENTER

The new site and building elements were arranged to save the existing trees and enhance the original architecture. The lobby entrance was placed between the original chapel and the 1960 annex addition. The entrance from Oak St and the new west parking lot is thru the treed courtyard along the new water landscape gardens by Karen Oleson of Siteline Design to a glass low roof lobby. Service and loading is from the alley entrance that connects to the new main lobby. The original chapel entrance is enhanced with a wrap around ceremonial stairs and enlarged porch. This entrance serves as the wedding porch and separate entrance to the chapel. The landscape elements create a relaxing courtyard entry while also collecting, retaining, and using 97% of roof and site storm water. Roof water falls over stone sculptures in the water garden along the entrance walk.

Landscape architect Karen Oleson of Siteline Design worked closely with the architect on the design and construction of the site.
